The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced Salman as the Goodwill Ambassador of the Indian contingent for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
His appointment drew criticism from some sports-persons, analysts and experts who felt that a sports person would have better suited the role.
When asked about his opinion over the controversy, Salman said that he wanted this controversy to last long so that everyone gets to know about Rio Olympics. But it fizzled out soon. He took to comparison saying that when Sachin (Tendulkar), a cricketer and Rahman (AR Rahman) who rules the music world were made brand ambassadors, there was no controversy and that is very is disheartening.
Those who were opposing Salman’s appointment as brand ambassador had raised the issue of his pending legal cases. Many people said he shouldn’t be there owing to the court cases. Salman said that even though, there are cases pending in the court, why can’t he be made the goodwill ambassador for Olympics; as he is not a convict.

Salman Khan was named ambassador of the Indian contingent for the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, but this decision has come with subsequent appreciations and criticisms.
Speaking said he’s honored that Indian Olympic Association has chosen him as the goodwill ambassador for the Indian contingent for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
He added that its a matter of national pride that Indian athletes are performing better at the Olympic Games and Salman thinks all should join hands in giving them every support and cheer so that Rio 2016 becomes India’s best Olympic tally.
Unfortunately post this announcement there has been outrage from fellow athletes as well as in social media.
At the forefront of the criticism were Milkha Singh and Yogeshwar Dutt. Milkha Singh said that he has nothing personal against Salman, but he would have preferred if a fellow sportsman was picked instead.
Meanwhile Yogeshwar Dutt,the London Olympics bronze-medallist, said he couldn’t understand the purpose of such an appointment in terms of athlete benefits. He added that everybody has the right to promote movies in India, but Olympics is not a place to promote films.CRB Tech WordPress
