International cricket star Ishant Sharma will tie the knot with Pratima Singh, an ace basketball player from Varanasi who represented India at the international level, in December 2016.
Pratima’s mother Urmila Singh said in an interview that the engagement ceremony of Ishant and Pratima took place on Sunday in the presence of friends and relatives at a hotel in Gurgaon.
Singh has consulted a noted astrologer to find the auspicious moment and date (i.e. auspicious time) for the marriage. Urmila Singh said that she is very pleased with her daughter’s choice. Pratima being a sportsperson and has chosen a cricketer as her life partner is a beautiful decision. The ring ceremony has been done.
Urmila unveiled that the marriage was rescheduled from July to December since Ishant is expected to be on tour with Team India during that period. The fast bowler met Pratima around five years ago and the relationship blossomed gradually.
Pratima Singh started playing basketball at an early age. In 2006 she was selected to the Indian junior basketball team and she was made captain in 2008.
Pratima participated in the Asian Games in 2010 and well performed.
Pratima completed her Masters in Physical Education (MPED) and M Phil (Physical Education) from Delhi University. She has also enrolled for a PhD in Physical Education at Delhi University, said Mrs. Singh.
Pratima is the youngest among the five sisters. Her elder sister Priyanka is a former basketball player and a National institute of Sports (NIS) coach. Another sister Divya coaches the junior India basketball team. Two other sisters, Prashanti and Akansha also play basketball.

India’s teammate Rohit Sharma not only just congratulated Ishant on Twitter but also took an opportunity to make a tongue-in-cheek remark.
Hours after Ishant Sharma shared the photo of his engagement on social media, teammate Rohit Sharma, who recently tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend Ritika Sajdeh, pulled the leg of Sharma. Rohit trolled Ishant by saying that he should get his famous long hair trimmed at least for the special day.
Ishant, though currently not a part of the India squad to Zimbabwe tour, is gearing for the West Indies tour.
