After Indian shuttler P.V. Sindhu triumph over Nozomi Okuhara of Japan to enter the final of the women’s singles event at the Rio Olympic Games, author Shobhaa De once again sparked a controversy by tweeting an idiotic remark on the Hyderabadi star.

World No.10 Sindhu registered a 21-19, 21-10 victoty in the semi-finals over No.6 Okuhara on Thursday to become the first Indian shuttler to enter the final of the Olympics badminton. In the final, she had to face two-time reigning world champion Carolina Marin of Spain. But after her selfie tweet on India’s delegates to Rio, De’s remark has really neeb taken by the people the wrong way as she was criticized by the twitter users.

PV SINDHU Silver Princess ?,” De wrote on Thursday and immediately she tried to salvage the situation by two new tweets. “Silver minted by Sindhu. Chandi ke baad Sona!!!” and the other “Go for gold, girl!!!”

She has been criticised for undervaluing Sindhu’s achievement and betraying an ill and sarcastic mentality about Sindhu’s chances against Marin in the final.

De had previously initiated controversy by tweeting, “Goal of Team India at the Olympics: Rio jao. Selfies lo. Khaali haat wapas aao.” She daid that was a waste of money and opportunity. That brought a storm of criticism on Shobhaa from sports persons which included 2008 Beijing Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra and others.

Well Shobhaa got a chance to clear the air of confusion it seems. During a television news debate, Shobhaa finally spoke up on the selfie tweet issue for which she has been criticized. The author expressed her regret about the tweet, and aid she intended no malice

She said that at that point it really seem like India was going to come back empty hand…She added that having been an athlete herself, it was said out of deep frustration. She said that she’s a sentimental person and while tweeting doesn’t calculate…Sometime she says right and at time not. This time obviously it backfired.

With a smile she acknowledged that she has been punished for it, shamed and criticised, to which she referred as public penance.
