How We Successfully Organized Grilled Tandoori Chicken.

This time CRB Tech Reviews brings you chicken cooked in tandoor or grilled. Tandoori chicken is a traditional Indian dish of bold and spicy flavors!

Often served worldwide , did you ever thought who actually invented such a spicy version of chicken. Well let’s look into the history.

Mughal period has seen meny recipe contributions and same happened with Tandoori chicken too. Other stories owing to its origin also makes rounds such as the one mentioned below.

A man named Kundan Lal Gujral used to run a restaurant called Moti Mahal in Peshawar in British India. One day while experimenting with his various cusines, he tried cooking chicken in tandoors i.e. clay ovens used by the locals until then only to cook bread.Gujral was able to cook tender chickens with succulent inside and crispy outside.

After the partition in 1947, Peshawar became part of Pakistan and Gujral found himself among many refugees fleeing to India. He moved his restaurant to Delhi in a place called Daryagunj.The Tandoori chicken at Moti Mahal impressed the first Prime Minister of India that he made it a regular at official banquets.

Traditionally, tandoori chicken is made in a clay oven. But what if you don’t have one? Well there is an alternative, you can grill it.You can bake it too but the flavor from the grill gives it that rustic touch that you’d get in a authentic restaurant.

Grilled Tandoori Chicken

Prep time : 35 minutes

Cook time: 10 minutes

Total time: 45 minutes


  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts

For the marinade

  • ½ cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp cilantro leaves
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp ginger
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepperGrilled tandoori-chicken


  1. Mix together all marinade ingredients. Place marinade in a shallow big bowl and add chicken breasts. Allow to marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  2. Remove chicken from the bowl and discard marinade. Cook chicken on the grill over medium heat 5-6 minutes on each side until thoroughly cooked.
  3. Suggested serving options: lime wedges for drizzling, cooked rice, extra cilantro, indian flatbread (naan) and mango chutney
