This recipe is but a winner. You can make it in larger quantities and also freeze well for later use. You can substitute black beans with kidney beans. There are multitude of choice when comes to nuts. You can substitute pecans, almonds, and cashew instead of the walnuts. This recipe can be modified as your choice of herbs. A very customizable recipe; you can serve with burger buns and garnishes or with your fav gravy and mashed potatoes. Enjoy at your will!
You could also make another choice to redo the recipe to make it gluten-free too. This version is very delicious, even the kids would love to relish on them. So let’s take a look at the ingredients and the method to cook.
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 cup coconut aminos, Braggs liquid aminos or soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup nutritional yeast flakes (optional)
- 1/4 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- 4 cups quick cooking oats
- 1 cup cooked rice or quinoa
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/2 cup cooked black bean
- 1 tsp ground flax seeds
Methods to follow
Preheat your oven up to 400 degrees. Bring water to boil in a saucepan. Add liquid aminos, garlic, onion , yeast flakes, Italian seasoning and cayenne pepper. Stir in oats, cooked rice, nuts of your choice, black beans/ kidney beans and flax seeds. Reduce heat and keep on stirring until liquid is well absorbed, for about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool enough to handle. Using a large canning jar lid including the rim, form patties placing them on a lightly oiled cookie sheet. Bake for 30 minutes, turning them halfway. You might also cook in a lightly oiled skillet on both sides. Finally top up with your favorite toppings!
