Yoga to Fight Depression and Anxiety

1. Breathing Exercises

With its wide range of breathing exercises alongwith body position like Padmasana or Lotus pose is one of the practices in yoga which is very powerful to people suffering from depression.Take deep breaths and try to maintain a regular rhythm of breathing.

2. Sarvangasana

This asana typically involves thyroid gland which can help to lessen stress and anxiety.

3.Bhujangasana

Also popularly known as the cobra pose, this asana can relieve from stress by again regulating your thyroid and also the para-thyroid glands. Lie on your belly and with your arms in front of you and palms on the floor, arch your back and lift your torso. Don’t lift your pelvis and then look straight in the front. Hold this position for a few seconds and then relax your body back into a resting position.

4. Balasana

A simple resting position that can be practiced any time when you are feeling stressed and even between asanas. Sit down on your knees with your hips touching your ankles. Then gradually lean forward and continue until your forehead touches the floor. Your arms should lie right at the side of your body with your palms facing upwards. Hold to this position till you are comfortable and focus on your breathing.

5. Salabhasana

This Locust pose, can help you to counter anxiety as well as back pain and digestion problems.

6. Shirshasana

A higher level yoga pose and only recommended once you are well-versed with yoga and have adequate strength and flexibility in your body. This pose has a relaxing and calming effect on your body and can help you to channel your energy effectively. Though it is good to do it without any help, but you can take the help of wall and support yourself.

7. Shavasana

My favourite and the easiest of all asanas. To mention this should be your concluding asana.Close your eyes and ease your mind, relax entite body and be in a resting state for 10 minutes. When finished,roll on your side and gently coming sit straight.
